Research and Zen-velopment

I got up nice and early this morning and headed over to Heil Ranch to tap out some tempo efforts based on hr (rather than power). I was gathering some data for an upcoming article, so stay tuned because shortly I’ll reveal some truly interesting stuff.

Conditions were super ripe, and I just felt comfortably rocking on the superfly and in the zone. It was that magic zone, the one that is the sole reason you ride your bike. No iPod or music, just the clanging of the chain and my panting to get me through the workout.

Trails were empty, and conditions were perfect. I felt really good tapping out the 2 20 minute tempo efforts on the mountain bike, at least as compared to yesterday when somehow they just felt like death. Quite odd as I managed to forget my water bottles on the kitchen table. I had about 5oz of water for a 2 hour ride and no food (not highly recommended at all). I managed but was starving and thirsty afterwards.

Snowing today/tomorrow then back to the Upper 40′s by wednesday. Off to the gym tomorrow and then back to putting in the hours on the road. Weather looks to be nasty this weekend, but doesn’t that make it fun?
