Chilly Weekend
Saturday
The sky is falling? We got a little white stuff on the ground here and the temps have dipped a little over this weekend and required the busting out of the winter gear.
Saturday, I installed the fenders and headed out for a short cruise on the road bike to loosen up the legs from the gym and burn of some turkey.
There was a light dusting in Gunbarrel, but as I headed towards Boulder it was a bit warmer, and there was no snow?
As I continued North towards Lyons, I came around a corner, and bam freezing cold and snow?
Little weird……
Sunday
Sunday, I met up with Kerkove and Carney for a dirt road ride in the hills. They were depressed there was no snow on the ground in Ft. Collins so they decided to come down to Boulder to play, but unfortunately ma nature didn’t provide anything of substance. It didn’t mean the ride wasn’t cold though!
We climbed up Porter and Sunshine Canyon to Gold Hill. The first part of the ride was deep in the clouds with low visibility. Making the sight seeing for them not too exciting.
Heading up and up never really got any better. Though the coffee break at the General Store in Gold Hill was welcome, it allowed the clouds to move on. Unfortunately, my fingers were too damn cold to worry about getting my camera out for any pics. Literally pulled my gloves off at one point and was wondering how I got a chunk of ice in one of the fingers. Then I realized it was actually my index finger, and was about frozen solid.
After Gold Hill, we descended down to Left Hand Canyon road and then climbed back up LickSkillet road. It’s a ball-buster of a climb, but thankfully I was on the mtb and could spin it out rather than my usual grinder climbing style on the road bike.
From LickSkillet, it took us back into Gold Hill where we descended down Sunshine. On the descent down, I showed the boys the proper way of laying the bike down in the corner, while Kerkove played chicken with a F350 (Skip over to Jeff’s site where he videotaped it all). After we finished the descent it was a (relatively) easy ride back to Boulder via the bike path. I say relatively because when your fingers, toes and face are frozen it’s not as easy to pedal a few simple flat k’s as one might think.
I’m going to thaw out and then enjoy this week’s warmer temps and have some fun on the bike.
